Difficult day today for some riders from the St. Peter’s Challenge crew and the VC Senlis…Started off this morning from Borest with Julia, Abby, Kari, Denzil, Nick, Fabrice, Gilles and David. The weather was already cold, windy and overcast, and then THINGS GOT WORSE.
Kari had a bike problem so it was decided to switch out bikes at her home in Villers. So, off we go Villers-bound when Fabrice gets a flat tire. We decided to let the others continue and meet up again in Villers. By the time Fabrice, Gilles and David made it to Kari’s home, the others had time to have atleast 2 flats (the victim was Julia) … and were still en route to Kari’s home. Julia finally had to call it a day and await rescue in Villers.
We intercepted them in the forest only to find Denzil humped over his wheel with a flat tire…By this time, we all were plenty tired of flat tires and cold blustery wind. Decision was made to ride thru Raray, Rully, Montepilloy and so on, when just outside of Villers Denzil flatted again! He threw in the towel and limped back to Villers to await rescue as well.
Finally, we were rolling into some nasty cold headwinds on the way home. On the descent from Montepilloy, Gilles decided that it would be a good idea to have flat, which he proceeded to do. I was out front and back-tracked to help them…It was really a mess!
My GPS shows 55 kms from my house in Senlis for 2h35m of riding time at 21,5 kms/h average speed. Hopefully, there will be better weather and less flats the next time around … Keep training!
